In a heavily wooded environment, fire resistance is key. We used corrugated metal as the exterior siding - simple, beautiful and fireproof.
The Beauty of Space
The owner of this property is a retired architect. When he asked me to design design the house, the goal was to make a beautiful structure within which he would live. We felled one tree on the site - it had a very straight trunk. We had it kiln dried and used it as a key post in the structure.
The Old Enlivened by the New
Taking the older idea of a timber frame and integrating into a space with exposed duct work and a stainless steel stove pipe asks the question posed by Kevin Lynch, “What Time is this Place?”
Corrugated Metal Exterior
The House is in a wooded environment. We decided to use a corrugated metal exterior to provide fire resistance. The detailing on the exterior became a beautiful vocabulary of lights and penetrations.
